Caesar Vespasianus Augustus

"Ephesus" reached its peak in the 1st and 2nd centuries CE when it was the second most significant and largest city, surpassed only by Rome, with a population estimated at 400,000–500,000 in 100 CE. The city was renowned for the Temple of Artemis, the Library of Celsus, and a theater capable of seating 25,000 spectators. Ephesus also boasted several large bath complexes and one of the most advanced aqueduct systems in the ancient world. The water powered numerous mills, one of which has been identified as a marble sawmill. The city and the temple were destroyed by the Goths in 263 CE, marking the end of Ephesus's golden age. Vespasian enriched Ephesus with a second city gate within the walls built during the reign of Lysimachus. Male latrines were also constructed during his rule.
