RIC 920 (ANTIOCHIA)
COLLECTION NO. 871
Attribution of this coin to the 4th unspecified oriental mint instead of Antiochia (as in RIC V.II) is based on the article by S. Estiot, "L’Empereur et l’usurpateur: un 4e atelier oriental sous Probus"; Studies in ancient coinage in honor of Anndrew Burnett, Spink, London, 2015.
Only 2 specimens of this type are cited in the above article, including the specimen from P. Gysen's collection, so this is apparently only the 3rd known specimen in the world and only the second available on the market. However it is by the the finest example of he three known!
Virtually as struck with almost full silvering! Spectacular condition!
Provenance: ex famous Giovanni Dattari collection formed at the beginning of 20th century!
Collection : 10 Probus - 4th unspecified oriental mint
