My old Holey Coin Vest had dozens of old coins which had been holed in past centuries. Nothing on the vest dated later than 1900. Many of the coins would have been fairly valuable without holes, and some of them were still reasonably valuable with the holes.
The reverse of Holey Coin Vest II was a (one-a-year) date set of holed US large cents, lacking only the rare years like 1793, 1795, 1799, and 1804. The Holey Gold Hat was all pre-1900 World and US gold.
This was a fun and usually inexpensive way to collect the coins that no one else wanted. In many cases, the coins were still attractive, aside from the old holes in them. They all had stories to tell, and just as much history as the ones that did not get holed in historical times.
I sold all but one or two of these coins by 2013, but as of 2022, I have begun collecting holed coins again on a very casual basis.
