Notes: The Dorchester Hoard found in 1936 consisted of 22,121 coins, almost all antoninianii. The hoard was buried no earlier than 257 CE, in what was the garden of a Roman villa. The burial did not occur in a conflict area, and is believed to be related to the rapid debasement of the coinage at the time. This particular coin is significantly overweight, possibly contributing to its presence in the hoard.

About 3000 of the coins went to the British Museum, and 1500 to the Dorchester Museum . According the Harold Mattingly, “…the vast residue of the hoard has been finding a brisk market at Dorchester and has been doing its part to spread some slight knowledge of the third century of the Empire in Britain.”
