Roman Empire, Claudius II (268-270), Antoninianus, Cyzicus mint, 4th emission, 2nd officina.
Obverse: IMP CLA-V-D-IVS P F AVG, radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right, seen from behind, •• below;
Reverse: VICTORI-A-E GOTHIC, trophy of arms, helmet left, on each side, a bound and seated captive, SPQR in exergue;
Notes: The VICTORIAE GOTHIC reverse type is without a doubt the most iconic coin struck by Claudius II, and the Cyzicus mint paired it with a variety of bust types, some extremely hard to find, allowing a would-be collector to assemble a very interesting set. This reverse type exists both with and without the SPQR mintmark, making it hard to estabilish a chronological succession of the emissions.
