WOOLLY MAMMOTH
1000 Francs 1 Troy oz, Pure .999 Silver Coin
with Antique Finish and Real Eye effect
Maximum mintage of only 500 coins worldwide!
This coin is dedicated to the woolly mammoth and represents a high-relief numismatic masterpiece in a handmade antique finish and with real eye effect.
The woolly mammoth (Mammuthus primigenius) is a species of mammoth that lived during the Pleistocene epoch, and was one of the last in a line of mammoth species, beginning with Mammuthus subplanifrons in the early Pliocene. The woolly mammoth diverged from the steppe mammoth about 400,000 years ago in eastern Asia. Its closest extant relative is the Asian elephant. The appearance and behaviour of this species are among the best studied of any prehistoric animal because of the discovery of frozen carcasses in Siberia and Alaska, as well as skeletons, teeth, stomach contents, dung, and depiction of life in prehistoric cave paintings.
The coin is issued under the legal tender of Burkina Faso, with an antique finish, real eye effect, and a very low maximum mintage of only 500 coins worldwide. The reverse depicts an adult mammoth with magnificent tasks and photographically expressive eyes (hence the real eye effect designation); the name of the species along with the year of the issue also defined. The obverse depicts the Coat of Arms of Burkina Faso.
