2022 - Chapungu: Geschichten in Stein l Stories in Stone

Shona-Art from Zimbabwe transforms the baroque ensemble of the Schwetzingen palace gardens into a Chapungu sculpture park; 50 works by 34 artists open up a new perspective on African art.
The bilingual catalog with large-format images of all artworks illuminates the origins of Shona Art and describes the cosmos of its inspiration. The sculptures focus on existential themes. They reflect lifeworlds and aesthetic traditions that differ from Western thinking and therefore invite close examination. In their entirety, they embody a treasure trove of social, spiritual, political and aesthetic values.
