HISTORY

It's hard to say when exactly the anniversary this pin is meant to commemorate took place. It is likely that it must have been before Georgia's secession from the Soviet Union on April 9, 1991 - using the hammer and sickle symbolism after 1991 would be very unlikely. If one looks at the overview of the administrative divisions of the Adjarian executive bodies, it becomes clear that the reference of 60 years is not made to the founding of the NKVD (July 13, 1934) or the MVD (March 27, 1946). I assume the anniversary refers to the founding of the Cheka Batumi on March 25, 1921 with Sajaya Kalistrat Grigorievich as the first chairman (he became a victim of the purges in 1937). This means that these pins could have been handed out in 1981.

The symbolism of the shield and sword clearly stems from the graphic heritage of the NKVD, while the colors blue and red certainly refer to the Georgian and Adjaran flags respectively (the AASSR flag was only supplemented by a small inscription compared to the Georgian flag).
