One of the earliest examples of a moneyer commemorating his own accomplishment. As governor of Syria, Aemilius Scaurus compelled Aretas III to end his siege on Jerusalem and to pay an enormous fine to Pompey. Scaurus was curule aedile with Publius Plautus in 58 BC
