The Triumvirs. Mark Antony. Autumn 32-spring 31 BC. AR Denarius (17.5mm, 3.95 g, 3h). Legionary type. Patrae(?) mint. Praetorian galley right / Aquila between two signa; LEG • XV[III • LYB]ICAE above. Crawford 544/11; CRI 375; Sydenham 1240; RSC 53; RBW 1836. Toned, a couple areas of weak strike. Good VF.
An unfortunate area of weakness making a definite determination between Crawford 544/10 and 544/11 impossible without a die match. While it appears that the coin is likely a Legion XVIII, the possibility that it could be Legion XVII Classicae cannot be ruled out.
