This certificate accompanies a loz silver coin, struck by The Perth Mint to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's Coronation. Princess Elizabeth acceded to the throne in February 1952 on the news of the death of her father, King George VI. On 2 June 1953, the new Queen, following a 900-year tradition, was crowned in Westminster Abbey. At the height of the Coronation ceremony, the Archbishop of Canterbury raised aloft the Crown of St Edward, before placing it on the head of the monarch. As the ensuing fanfare rang out, 7,000 assembled guests in the Abbey chanted "God save the Queen". The coin features a coloured depiction of St Edward's Crown surrounded by a decorative border and a representation of the breast star of the Order of the Thistle badge. The reverse design includes the inscription ELIZABETH II 1953-2003 and ANNIVERSARY OF CORONATION, as well as the Perth Mint's traditional 'P' mintmark. The design of this 2003-dated commemorative coin is issued with the approval of Buckingham Palace. The coin is legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965 and is struck from 99.9% pure silver in proof-like quality. The obverse carries the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary denomination. No more than 40,000 individual coins will be issued by The Perth Mint.
