According to accompanying note, the coin was found at " south of Grambzow", which appears to be Gramzow north east of Berlin. In that region a large hoard of Solidi was found in the late 19th century (Schatz von Biesenbrow). The hoard was melted down, but in modern times a second search revealed a 8 more solidi, including pieces in the names of Leo I, Zeno, Justinian and the Frankish king Theodebert. The interpretation is that the coins were part of a hoard of Thuringians who fled the Frankish onslaught in 534. The present coin is an imitation, which may well have been produced by the Thuringians.
