Ix Chel was the goddess of midwifery and medicine in ancient Maya culture.
This coin is created from the finest silver in antique finish. Like other coins from the “Goddesses of Health” series, it is decorated with digital printing and has a total mintage of 500 pieces for global distribution. And now, let’s talk more about the design of the coin.
In the hands of Ix Chel, you can notice a rabbit. He is depicted with her because she is often associated with the lunar crescent and rabbits. Besides, she has a coiled snake headdress, because it is a sacred symbol of Maya women, worn even today. The coin also depicts her crone aspect - she is pouring a large amount of water. And water in collaboration with a serpent is thought to represent the deluge that destroyed the second Maya creation of people.
