Julius Holck - Fjord landscape

Poor finances made it difficult for Holck to pursue a career as an artist. He therefore began training as a machinist, and in that connection he came abroad as a stoker on a steamship. After returning home, he was determined to become a painter. He made copies after i.a. Adolph Tidemand, Hans Gude, Anders Askevold. The copy of Frits Jensen's Ingeborg ved Havet attracted great attention. Later he painted landscapes, marine images and street scenes from Bergen. He decorated several cafes in Bergen. For a time there was talk of letting H. decorate the newly built Bergen Børs.
