Lucius Aurelius Verus

"Parthicus Maximus" In 162 CE, Marcus Aurelius sent his brother and co-emperor, Lucius Verus, to lead a war against the Kingdom of Parthia. Lucius spent most of the campaign in Antioch, although he wintered in Laodicea and spent summers in Daphne, a resort on the outskirts of Antioch. Critics mocked Lucius' luxurious lifestyle. He took a mistress, enjoyed the company of actors, and was said to "play dice all night long."

It was also claimed that he spent more time in Antioch's open-air cafés than with his army.

Despite this, the war ended successfully. Though Lucius played a minimal personal role, he was awarded the titles Armeniacus, Medicus, and Parthicus Maximus, as well as a triumph upon his return to Rome in 166 CE.
