coins ancient to romans imperial and republican caracalla 198 217

Marcus Aurelius Antoninus

"Caracalla" In 213 CE, Caracalla left Rome, never to return. He embarked on a journey to the frontier in Germania. The target of the Roman military campaign was the Alamanni tribe, which had breached the border in Raetia. The campaign began with Caracalla's victory over the Alamanni at the Battle of the River Main. The emperor also ordered the fortification of the Upper Germanic limes, commonly referred to as the Agri Decumates. However, the prolonged clashes soon turned unfavorable for the Romans. To secure peace in the region, the emperor negotiated an agreement, effectively purchasing peace from the Germans.

During the campaign in Germania, Caracalla developed a fondness for the caracalla, a type of Gallic cloak with a hood that he frequently wore during his expeditions along the Rhine and Danube.
