Marcus Piavonius Victorinus

"The Gallic Dynasty" Originating from a wealthy Gallic family, he served in the army and eventually became a Praetorian tribune and consul of the Gallic Empire under the rule of Postumus. After Postumus was assassinated, he assumed the purple and initially struggled against Germanic tribes, even reclaiming some territories along the Rhine.

However, the province of Hispania broke away, rejoining the Roman Empire, and southern Gaul threatened to follow suit. The usurper was murdered in the spring of 271 CE in Cologne by his subordinate Atticianus, reportedly due to an affair with the latter’s wife.

His successor, Tetricus, carried out his consecration, making Victorinus the only deified ruler of the Imperium Galliarum, honored with the title Divus.
