Ulpia Severina Augusta

"The Woman Emperor" Ulpia Severina – a Roman empress, wife of Emperor Aurelian, and later a brief regent. Modern theories suggest she was the daughter of the general Ulpius Crinitus, a figure mentioned in the Historia Augusta, which also claims he adopted Aurelian. She had a daughter with the emperor, whose name remains unknown.

In the autumn of 274 CE, she was granted the title of Augusta and also held the honorary title Mater Castrorum et Senatus et Patriae, previously used by some empresses. She ruled during an approximately two-month interregnum following Aurelian's assassination. She was likely the only woman to govern the Roman Empire independently. This coin originates from the period of her solo reign.
