coins ancient to greek macedon roman province

Aesillas, quaestor

"The Province of Macedonia" The Via Egnatia was an ancient Roman road constructed between 146 and 120 BCE on the Balkan Peninsula. It stretched from Dyrrachium on the Adriatic coast through Egnatia (Thessalonica) to Byzantium, serving as the main communication route between Rome and its eastern territories. Its construction was initiated by the proconsul of Macedonia, Gnaeus Egnatius. The road was approximately 1,100 kilometers long and is described in Strabo's Geography. The Apostle Paul was among those who traveled along it.

The lands of Macedonia were rich in iron, gold, and copper. The region provided skilled artisans, teachers, and doctors. In addition to natural resources, Macedonian lands were abundant in timber, pitch, resin, hemp, flax, and the fish-rich surrounding seas.
