An attractive circulated example of the Type 1 Standing Liberty quarter.  This type was struck from 1916 until midway in 1917, when the design was modified.  On the updated (Type 2) coins, Liberty was given a chainmail vest and the stars on the reverse were given a more symmetrical arrangement.  On the earlier Type 1 coins like this, Liberty is bare-breasted (without armor) and there are no stars below the eagle.

The date is somewhat soft on this coin, but that is a typical design flaw present on all of the pre-1925 coins.  The date was the highest part of the obverse design, and thus was one of the first areas to be affected by circulation wear.  This problem was resolved when they modified the design to recess the dates in 1925 and beyond.

Acquired at the 2025 FUN show in Orlando.
