Baxter combines bright colors and an appealing composition to imbue Mr. Wrinkle’s Favorite
Speedwagon with a sense of whimsy. The sculpture is from a series of works on wheels that Baxter
called “Tumpkins.” The artist coined the word, which suggests her own sense of originality and free
spirit. The height and precise construction of this work reflects Baxter’s mastery of the technical aspects
of sculpture. The work is sited to suggest its potential for speed.
