CARIA, Heraclaea Salbace. Domitian. AD 81-96. Æ (20mm, 5.08 g, 6h). Laureate head right / Hercules walking left, extending hand and holding club. RPC II 1238. VF, earthen green patina.

The site of this city was first identified by Wad- dington (As. Min., 51) at the modern Makuf, at the foot of the Salbacus range of mountains and at the north-eastern end of the plain of Tabae. Its territory was separated by the little river Timeles from that of the neighbouring city Aphrodisias, and the River-god ΤΙΜЄΛΗC is repre- sented on imperial coins of both cities.
