According to ancient myths, those who have passed away have to cross the rivers Styx and Acheron to reach the underworld. With a lantern in hand, he ushers departed spirits on a one-way journey, their passage shrouded in mystery and awe of the unknown. His fee for carrying the dead across the rivers to the underworld is a coin.
