Caesar Nerva Traianus Augustus

"Columna Traiani – Trajan's Column" The structure was designed by the imperial architect Apollodorus of Damascus. The column was formally dedicated on May 18, 113 CE. It stands on a pedestal (originally adorned with two eagles), within which an inner chamber housed the urns containing the ashes of Trajan and his wife, Plotina.

At the top of the column was a grand statue of the emperor in military attire, which was removed by Christians sometime after 392 CE. The primary decoration of this monument is a relief frieze in the form of a spiraling ribbon that wraps around the column in 23 coils. The 155 scenes depicted on the frieze illustrate events from the two Dacian Wars, from the initial preparations to the final victory.
