Caesar Nerva Traianus Augustus
"Via Traiana" Via Traiana was an ancient Roman road. It was built by Emperor Trajan as an extension of the Via Appia, connecting Beneventum to Brundisium (modern Brindisi) via a shorter route. Constructed in 109 CE at Trajan’s personal expense, the road was completed during a period of relative peace, free from military campaigns.
The geographer Strabo rightly noted that traveling from Brundisium to Beneventum via the later Via Traiana was a full day shorter than using the old Republican Via Appia (which thereafter became merely an alternate route to reach Brundisium). The Via Traiana stretched approximately 330 kilometers in length, and remnants of several Roman bridges can still be found along its course.
