Julia Publia Licinia Cornelia Salonina Augusta

"The Peacock – Sacred Bird of the Empress" Julia Cornelia Salonina, the wife of Roman Emperor Gallienus and the mother of Valerian II and Saloninus, was born in Bithynia and was likely of Greek origin. She was murdered alongside her husband in 268 CE.

Her image, bearing the title Augusta, appeared on coins from 253 to 268 CE. The peacock, associated with Juno on the reverse of the coin, was her sacred bird and also symbolized the empress, much like the eagle belonged to her husband, Jupiter, and served as the bird of the emperors.
